The Hazel Henderson Center is rooted in a physical place: Hazel’s former home in St. Augustine, Florida. But its purpose reaches beyond the walls of that home.

We hope the Center becomes an ongoing gathering place for the questions that will shape the next economy: How do we build systems that value human wellbeing, ecological health, shared prosperity, and democratic participation? What must we leave behind, and what new institutions, practices, relationships, and stories are needed to move forward?

The Center also exists to carry forward a vital lineage. Hazel and her generation helped make visible long-overlooked ideas: that the economy is embedded in society and nature, that progress must be measured by more than growth alone, and that a livable future requires new systems rooted in collaboration, accountability, and care.

We hope to preserve that knowledge, momentum, and moral imagination, while creating the relationships, resources, and support that allow a new generation to carry the work forward in ways that meet this moment. Through convenings, residencies, research, public dialogue, and partnerships, the Center will bring longtime movement leaders into conversation with the thinkers, organizers, entrepreneurs, artists, and community builders shaping the green economy today.

We see the Center as connective tissue: a place to honor and learn from the people who helped build this movement, while making room for the ideas, practical plans, and leadership needed to carry it forward.

Our hope is not simply to remember a visionary. It is to build a home for the community, carrying her ideas forward and making her vision real in today’s world.
